Erik Ten Hag Sends Open Letter To Manchester United Fans
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has sent a message to the club’s fans following their Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle United yesterday.
This trophy was the Dutch manager’s first title win with the club and their first trophy since their 2017 Europa League win over Ajax.
That six-year trophy drought effectively ended in the first half against Newcastle. United went ahead through Casemiro, who headed in Luke Shaw’s freekick. It was the defensive midfielder’s tenth goal contribution since joining this summer. He also put in a titanic display in the middle.
In-form attacker Marcus Rashford added a second to make sure of the tie. United held on, withstanding anything the Tyneside club threw at them to clinch the title.
“To all Manchester United supporter
s, I wanted to take the time to address you directly this morning,” Ten Hag started.
“When I arrived at the club, we spoke about the challenge and importance of reuniting this group of players with our amazing fans.
“Believe me, this squad knows exactly how important you are. The bond between the supporters and the team is there for everyone to see and what we experienced together yesterday will only further strengthen that bond.
“The atmosphere generated by those of you at Wembley was incredible. From the first minute until the last you were there with us, driving the team on, supporting and encouraging them to get over the line to bring the trophy back to Manchester.
“For those of you who couldn’t be there, we felt your support before, during and after the game. Know that each and every one of you will always play your part in this team being successful.
“I am proud of my players and staff for their preparation and performances. Yesterday, we saw the required desire, spirit and determination that we must demand of everyone who represents Manchester United.
“We set ourselves high standards every day. At Wembley we met those demands and got the reward of our first trophy together.”
Ten Hag explained how United is synonymous with trophy wins and said they would not stop there. They are still alive in every competition and have the chance to end the season historically.
Man Utd sit third on the Premier League table, clawing their way into title talks. They are only eight points away from table-toppers Arsenal with 14 games left in the season. United look unstoppable at the moment and could catch up with the Gunners if they drop points.
Also, United beat Barcelona to secure their place in the Europa League round of 16. They are still in contention for the FA Cup too.
Ten Hag has Manchester United bouncing again after a wayward period for the club.
Ten Hag has secured the fans’ support despite the club’s future being up in the air, and they will back him all the way going forward.
Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) asked whoever takes control of the club, whether Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani or British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, to back him in the market.
