Fabrizio Romano: Chelsea ‘Have This Possibility’ To Sign Striker This Summer

A new striker may well be on the agenda at Chelsea this coming summer when the transfer window opens once again.

The Blues right now are seemingly lacking a true number nine, with Kai Havertz the one getting the nod in that position. However, Havertz is much more comfortable dropping deeper and playing behind an actual striker, so this setup is not sustainable.

Neither Pierre Emerick Aubameyang or David Datro Fofana appear to be fancied at all right now by Graham Potter, so a new striker in the summer may well become a priority.

Chelsea have one option to resign a striker if they want to, although it wont be a cheap option.

They have a buyback clause in the deal they agreed with Roma to sell Tammy Abraham, and that comes into play this summer.

However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have not taken any action to trigger that clause just yet, at least in terms of informing Roma they will be.

“In the contract between Roma and Chelsea, there is a clause – just for Chelsea,” the Italian journalist said on his YouTube channel when speaking about Abraham’s situation.

“Let me clarify, the clause is not valid for any other club. [It’s a] €80million (£71.3m) buy-back clause.

“So Chelsea can bring the player back to Stamford Bridge for that amount in the summer.

“But at the moment there is nothing advanced or concrete, so they have not communicated that they want to trigger the clause, but they have this possibility.

“There are also rumours about Manchester United’s [interest], but at the moment there are no concrete talks.”
