Frank Lampard Hopes Chelsea Can Build On ‘Small Step Forward’
Frank Lampard hopes Chelsea can build on a ‘small step forward’ after beating Bournemouth last weekend to end the club’s winless run.
Chelsea’s 3-1 win at the Cherries ended a run of six consecutive defeats in all competitions and secured Lampard his first victory since returning to the club as interim manager.
The west Londoners are 11th in the Premier League table and have little to play for across the run-in, but Lampard admits that result was a ‘boost’ to his squad and hopes Chelsea can build on a ‘small step forward’ against Nottingham Forest this weekend.
“It’s been a boost, Nice feeling,” Lampard told his pre-match press conference.
“Players have to strive for that feeling again. That’s what builds winning teams. At the moment we are in some form of a building process. It was a small step forward.”
Chelsea face a Nottingham Forest side battling to secure their Premier League status this season. Lampard’s former side, Everton, are among the clubs in contention for the drop and the Chelsea boss was asked whether he could contribute to his old side’s chances of survival by beating their relegation rivals.
“Maybe. But Everton’s fate is in their own hands at this point. It’s not in my concerns. I lived that life last year. A have a lot of connection to the club and the year that I had there was a real enjoyable time for me.”
Lampard provided an update on his squad and confirmed that England trio Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Mason Mount remain unavailable.
“[Ben Chilwell] Not fit. It’s a similar story to Reece James and Mason Mount. I feel for him. We miss big players. Reece, Mason and Ben are big internationals.”
