Frank Lampard Provides An Update On Chelsea Midfielder’s Contract Situation

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admits it’s not up to him to retain Mason Mount

Frank Lampard has admitted that he has no part in persuading Mason Mount to extend his contract at Chelsea. The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries this season and has played a rather diminished role.

Although Todd Boehly and Mount have had some contract discussions, it has been difficult to bind the midfielder to a deal because of concerns over the contract’s duration and pay package.

The England international wants to continue at Chelsea, though, and both parties are trying to come up with a solution. Unless we act first, he could reach an agreement to join a top rival.

However, if no deal is signed, Mount would be a free agent in 2024, and teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Manchester United are ready to seize the chance.

When questioned about Mount’s contract situation, (h/t Football.London) interim Chelsea manager Lampard, 44, claimed he had no involvement in helping the midfielder extend his deal and added:

“Yes, but at this point, it’s not my opinion that will be the resolution.”“It will be the opinion of the club and the opinion of Mason, so that’s between them. I think my opinion’s pretty clear; I don’t need to spell it out what I think of Mason as a player, but it’s not my one to get into; that’s between them.”

Naturally, Lampard would love for Mount to continue with the team for many years. But the club legend will make way for a new manager soon and it will be the latter’s decision on who to retain.

Behind the scenes, though, we can never be sure. Lamparder might persuade the 24-year-old to remain at the club, and maybe the academy graduate could profit from the hiring of a new manager in the summer window. And it is acknowledged that Mount and Todd Boehly have resumed their contract negotiations.

Despite his terrible season, Mount should be aware that he is still an important player, and we are expecting that he will return the following year with more commitment to Chelsea. We can hopefully clean this mess soon.
