According to Gerard Romero, Barcelona have held a meeting with the agent of Manchester City captain and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan today.
The German international is in the final five months of his contract with Manchester City and has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona in the recent past.
There had been speculations that the 32-year-old would be renewing his contract with the Premier League champions to stay at the Etihad beyond the current season.
But, nothing is set in stone as of yet and it seems like Barcelona are making an attempt to lure him to Spotify Camp Nou in the summer.
The Blaugrana are in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park, especially as concerns remain over the continuity of Sergio Busquets.
Gundogan is a player who can be a solid, short-term option for Barcelona to add that bit of experience and leadership in midfield in the eventuality that Busquets does not renew his contract.
The Manchester City captain would also be arriving on a free transfer and thus is a ‘very serious’ option for Barça for the upcoming transfer window, reports Romero. However, contrary to reports in the past, his arrival is not closed yet.
Gundogan has been with Manchester City for almost seven years now, having arrived in the summer of 2016 from Borussia Dortmund. The midfielder has made 284 appearances for the Premier League giants, scoring 52 goals and setting up 36 more.
An icon at the Etihad, Gundogan has won a host of trophies and has been key to the club’s success under Pep Guardiola. But, a possible move to Barcelona in the summer could be on the cards, with the Catalans holding a meeting with his agent the whole morning today.
