HARRY KANE’S WARNING TO NEW PREMIER LEAGUE SIGNINGS DARWIN NUNEZ AND ERLING HAALAND
Kane insists both Darwin Nunez And Erling Haaland will have a tough time going for the golden boot in the Premier League
Harry Kane has fired a warning to new Premier League arrivals Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez in his first comments since Manchester City and Liverpool secured the two forwards.
Kane has warned that it will not be an easy route to the Premier League golden boot, saying both Nunez and Haaland are bound to face stiff competition.
The 2021/22 campaign was one of the more underwhelming ones for Kane, who bagged 17 goals, finishing six behind top scorer Mohammed Salah and Son Heung Min.
Part of the reason he fell short in the scoring charts was because he endured a lengthy barren spell at the start of the season.
Ahead of Nunez and Haaland’s arrivals, Kane has warned that more quality forwards in the Premier League was only going to fuel his desire to perform even better in front of goal.
“The battle for the Golden Boot is always tough, the Premier League has produced some top strikers around the world for a number of years now. Every season I’ve been playing it’s always been a tough battle,” Kane said as quoted by Express Sport.
“You expect the top strikers to want to play in the Premier League and with those two new signings it’s going to be the case. It helps me as a player to have good competition, it drives me to improve and get better so, for sure, I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
In terms of all-time Premier League top scorers, Kane is right up there with 183 goals, with only Sergio Aguero, Andy Cole, Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer having scored more than him.
Haaland and Nunez stats
As far as the new signings are concerned, Erling Haaland comes at the back of another prolific season at Borussia Dortmund, where he notched 22 league goals.
Nunez has also been impressive in the Portuguese Primera Liga, getting an impressive 26 goals in the league.
