HEARTBREAK IN IATALY AS NIGERIAN FOOTBALL STAR FOUND DEAD IN HIS CAR DAYS AFTER COMPAINING OF LEG PAINS
Akeem Omolade played for twelve different clubs in Italy and featured in the Serie A for Torino between 2001 and 2003
Italian Serie A side Torino have mourned the death of their former striker Akeem Omolade who was found lifeless in his car as the tragic incident comes days after he complained of leg pains.
The Nigerian star passed away at the age of 39 as he was said to have featured for Torino and played in the Serie A between 2001 and 2003.
Daily Mail reports that Italian services discovered him lifeless in a Peugeot in the Sicilian capital Palermo which prompted mourning across Italian football.
It was gathered that Omolade also featured for 11 other clubs in Italy including Reggiana, Treviso and Novara before he retired.
Reports have it that no external injuries were spotted on him following an initial examination, but his family members disclosed that he had complained of pains in the leg.
Torino said in a statement…
“President Urbano Cairo and all of Torino Football Club sincerely share in the Omolade family’s grief at the passing of our former player Akeem Omolade.
“The Nigerian represented Torino in Serie A between 2001-2003, making five appearances
“Signed from Treviso, he first played in our youth side and then for the first team, making his Serie A debut against Inter Milan on February 2, 2003.
“The entire Torino family sends its deepest sympathies to his loved ones, his parents and his many friends.”
Findings revealed that Omolade spoke out against racism after being targeted by a group of the club’s ‘ultras’.
