Last month, speculation mounted that Tottenham Hotspur could potentially pull off a shock summer swoop for Romelu Lukaku.
According to La Repubblica in Italy, Tottenham are considered a more likely destination than Inter Milan for the struggling hitman.
And if Spurs genuinely are interested in the Belgium international, he’s absolutely there for the taking.
Chelsea lost 1-0 away to Everton this afternoon and yet again, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel refused to use the 28-year-old marksman.
Remember, Lukaku set the West Londoners back an eye-watering £98 million last summer.
So for the German manager to continue to snub him, with Lukaku starting one Premier League game since February, speaks volumes.
And if you’re Tottenham, you have to be encouraged by what you’re seeing.
From here it’s looking increasingly difficult to see the former Manchester United striker ever being a big player for Chelsea under Tuchel and he’s definitely available for transfer over the coming months.
He has to be, really.
And remember, Conte and Lukaku have history which makes you believe a move to Tottenham wouldn’t be a massive shock.
Well, it goes without saying that the Blues would hate to sell to their London rivals, but the player himself, who played under Conte at Inter, might well jump at the opportunity.
After all, the struggling attacker said last year in Italy that he would die for the current Lilywhites manager [Goal].
So if Conte makes it clear to Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy that he wants a reunion with the player, it’s possible.
And definitely in light of his snub at Goodison Park this afternoon.
