Julian Araujo Set To Train With Barcelona Reserves Until June As Return Is Ruled Out
Barcelona were dealing with two controversial stories during the winter transfer window, especially on deadline day. One of them, more famously, surrounded Sofyan Amrabat.
The Catalans had tabled a €40 million loan-plus-option to buy offer for the Moroccan midfielder, but it was rejected by Fiorentina. Amrabat did his best to push for the move, including skip training and even talk to the club president.
However, it did not go through. And while one could argue that Fiorentina were in the wrong for not letting Amrabat leave despite getting the offer they wanted, Julian Araujo’s story was far more heartbreaking.
The Mexican right-back, playing for LA Galaxy, had sealed a move to Barça on deadline day after the two clubs reached an agreement. MLS, too, gave the green flag for the transfer to go through.
Unfortunately, Barcelona received the paperwork 18 seconds too late, and the move never went through officially. The Spanish giants tried to appeal to FIFA, but their pleas were ignored, leaving Araujo stranded.
Now, it has been reported by Toni Juanmarti that Araujo will train with Barcelona Atletic for the next few months as MLS have refused to approve his return.
Barcelona are waiting for an official reply from the sport’s court, having recently appealed to them, as confirmed by director Mateu Alemany.
“We are counting on him, we are looking for solutions. There is an appeal to CAS and if not, the player will have to play for a different team in the next five months.”
Juanmarti has also reported that Araujo’s family is very excited about the player joining Barcelona in the coming months, even though the move is just under six months away from being complete.
