La Liga have vowed to act firmly within the powers and limits allowed by law over Barcelona’s corruption scandal.
The Camp Nou club are under investigation for paying former referee chief Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira.
Barca claim the payments made were for video and technical reports. Negreira once worked for the Comite Tecnico de Arbitro (CTA) – the body responsible for officiating in Spain.
La Liga and 14 clubs from the first and second tiers of Spanish football have expressed concern about the case.
The Spanish top-flight released a statement yesterday, while Sevilla and Espanyol also followed suit.
La Liga president Javier Tebas has said Barcelona would not face sporting sanctions if found guilty.
However, the other clubs want something done if it is proven in court that Barca were involved in match-fixing.
Tebas wants the club’s president Joan Laporta to resign if he cannot explain why the payments were made.
Blaugrana have announced that they have decided to outsource an investigation into the events.
There is pressure on the Prosecutor’s Office to deliver, and no stone will be left unturned.
While UEFA could ban Barca from their competitions for a season if found guilty, La Liga clubs want more. The credibility of the league is at stake.
Barcelona won nine titles, six Copa del Rey trophies and eight Spanish Super Cups between 2001 and 2018.
Marca claim Barca paid €6.7 million to DASNIL 95 – a company owned by Negreira – within that timeframe.
La Liga cannot take sporting action as it has been over three years since the incident happened.
However, other clubs want Barcelona punished by any means necessary if the Catalans are found to have erred.
