Liverpool are set to a third summer signing with a £4million deal for Aberdeen ace Calvin Ramsay now thought to be very close.
The Scottish Mail on Sunday (08/05, back page) report that Liverpool are set to finalise the signing of Ramsay.
It’s stated that Bologna really wanted Ramsay in January and made a ‘firm pitch’ to try and pair him up with fellow Scot Aaron Hickey.
The report adds that Leeds United have been ‘persistent’ in their chase of Ramsay but it’s Liverpool who will win the race.
A £4million deal is now on the brink of being completed just as Ramsay prepares to receive the SFWA Young Player of the Year award in Glasgow tonight.
It’s stated that Jurgen Klopp will give Ramsay a chance to impress in pre-season, but this is certainly a long-term move for Liverpool.
18-year-old Ramsay is viewed as a potential long-term successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold according to this report.
Alexander-Arnold is only 23, so he isn’t exactly going anywhere soon, but there have been repeated calls for him to move into midfield.
If that does happen in the next few years, Liverpool will feel that Ramsay can take over at right back for years to come.
Ramsay would be Liverpool’s third summer signing and there is a real feeling of looking to the future.
Fulham playmaker Fabio Carvalho is set to join the Reds this summer whilst Celtic talent Ben Doak has already agreed to sign.
Ramsay arriving would be another raid on the Scottish market and another case of Liverpool planning for the future.
Signing another right back does indicate that Neco Williams may be available this summer.
The Welshman impressed on loan at Fulham and they may want to keep him after promotion.
With an award to come tonight and a deal with Liverpool close, this is becoming a dream season for Ramsay.
