Lionel Messi Gives Barcelona Ultimatum As €500m Offer Per Year Expires In 2 Weeks
It is no secret that Lionel Messi wishes for a return to Barcelona equally as much as the Catalan side desire.
The player’s glorious spell at the club ended in tears and tension and there is a general feeling that he deserves a fairytale finish with the club where he began his rule. The objective to sign the Argentine back has never been closer for Barcelona.
Coming from a state of financial ruin, it has taken club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Mateu Alemany many sleepless nights to bring back the economics to a state where Messi’s arrival can be discussed.
The former captain is aware of Barcelona’s interest in signing him but has received no official offer yet. While the Catalans have submitted an unofficial bid of €25 million, Leo wants validation from La Liga that there will not be problems with his registration.
Meanwhile, Al-Hilal offer Messi an astonishing package of €500 million per year if he joins the Saudis this June. However, they have given him a deadline to accept the proposal and want an answer in 15 days. The offer will expire after that.
In light of the delay from Spain and Al-Hilal’s offer, Messi has given Barcelona ten days to develop a concrete proposal.
While the ultimatum, in theory, should be binding on the player’s decision, the situation is different in Messi’s case. After all, he is a legend of the game and the middle-east based club would never deny him a place even if he were to join on deadline day.
La Liga could give Barcelona the green signal in the coming days and an offer from the Catalan side is expected immediately after receiving clearance. If an official proposal from his former club appears on the table, one can expect negotiations to proceed swiftly.
