The Barcelona legend recounts his ‘crazy’ move from Spain to France as he joined Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain
Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has now explained that he had no plans of leaving Spanish club Barcelona at the time he left the club last summer.
Messi had returned to the club after holidaying in Argentina, only to be told he can no longer be registered for La Liga due to the financial situation of the club.
He then left the Catalan giants to join Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain, but Messi has not been able to replicate the Barcelona form in France, Daily Star reports.
The 34-year-old has struggled in the French capital with has ultimately attracted criticisms from the club fans.
Describing his move from Barcelona to PSG, Messi told TyC Sports as per SunSport…
“It was really difficult to understand what happened, I wasn’t expecting to leave Barcelona – it was a shock.
“I had everything in Barcelona. I left when I was very young. What’s more: I lived more in Barcelona than in Argentina.
“The truth is that I had no plans to change anything. Luckily, the children’s adaptation was spectacular. For Antonella and me it was more difficult.
“Next season will be way better for me with Paris Saint-Germain, I’m sure. It was not easy after that crazy summer.”
Messi’s fairy tale arrival in Paris ended with none of the fanfare romantics fans of the club would have hoped for, finishing the campaign with 11 goals and 14 assists in all competitions for PSG.
Messi fails to make UEFA Champions League team of the season
As expected, players of Real Madrid and Liverpool – who made the finals of this season’s Champions League finals- dominate the Team of the Season.
Regular names such as Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Lionel Messi as well as Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool duo Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were all exempted in this season’s Champions League Team of the Season.
