Barcelona have been in the news recently after Joan Laporta addressed the media over the Negreira scandal, signalling a strong intent to file lawsuits for defamation against entities that have spread false propaganda against the club.
But the ongoing off-the-pitch controversy should not deter Barcelona from their activity in the transfer market, with the club still keen on sealing a return of their former superstar Lionel Messi.
A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered a boost in Barcelona’s pursuit of Messi, suggesting that the Argentine is still in contact with several first-team stars and has left the door open for his return to Camp Nou.
It is quite well established that Messi shares an excellent relationship with most of the current first-team stars, especially with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba and Marc-Andre ter Stegen. There is even a possibility Busquets might remain at Camp Nou because of Messi’s potential return to the club.
Nevertheless, it appears the 35-year-old is looking at the Barcelona move quite favourably and has refused to renew his contract at Paris Saint-Germain.
He is aware of Barça’s financial situation, though and the whole process should take some time, as the club look to gain clearance from La Liga before they can go after the Argentine.
Among the Barcelona players, there is a sense of optimism about Messi’s return. They believe the Argentine’s arrival will serve as a confidence booster for many. Even coach Xavi Hernandez is looking forward to reuniting with his former teammate.
The Barcelona coach will be the first one to welcome Messi when he returns from PSG. But as mentioned earlier, it could be a tricky process for Barcelona, especially in the midst of the ongoing Negreira scandal, coupled with the FFP troubles.
