Lionel Messi Rules Out MLS Option As Wants To Prepare For Copa America 2024 In Europe

Barcelona have been granted a huge boost in their pursuit of Lionel Messi, as reported by La Vanguardia. The reporter suggests that the Argentine has ruled out a move to Major League Soccer (MLS) as he wants to stay in Europe and prepare for the 2024 Copa America.

Leo already picked up the Copa America in 2021, beating Brazil 0-1 in the final. It was the first major honour of his international career, and was followed up with the Finalissma in 2022, and then the prestigious World Cup at the end of the year.

With his contract expiring in the summer, it was thought that Messi would take the final call on his contract after the World Cup. Reports had suggested that he was going to sign an extension with PSG, but the player seems to be leaning towards exiting the French giants in the summer.

Barcelona are, therefore, one of the teams linked to him. Joan Laporta and Xavi have also confirmed their desire to have him back in the squad, with the coach suggesting that the Camp Nou doors will always be open for him.

“Of course, he’s the best player in the world. The best player in history. He would always fit in the team,” Xavi added when asked about Leo’s fit in the current Barcelona setup.
