Lionel Messi’s Return To Barcelona ‘COMPLICATED’ Laporta’s Dream Of A Reunion

Matias Messi, brother of former Barcelona captain Lionel Messi, was quick to take back the words he had impulsively uttered on his son’s Twitch channel on Wednesday, stating that he was just joking and Catalonia was his second home.

Yet, words are amongst the most dangerous weapons and the wounds inflicted by them are the most indolent.

After all, Lionel Messi’s brother had very aggressive words for the Catalan club when commenting about the Argentine’s possible return to Barcelona. As heard live on the Twitch stream, he said:

“We are not going to go back to Barcelona and if we go back we are going to do a cleaning. Among others, kicking Joan Laporta, ungrateful, with everything Messi gave to Barcelona. For me, Barcelona began to be known for Messi before Madrid was better known.”

According to reports from Depredict, Matias Messi’s words could have consequences reaching far beyond what one could contemplate. His comments have hurt the Catalan administration, and now make Lionel Messi’s dream return to the club further complicated.

The World Cup winner was forced to leave the club of his life after Barcelona came under a severe economic crunch close to two years ago.

He has settled in Paris since and has maintained his high level of play unperturbed. However, it is the dream of many fans that Leo has his final dance in the garnet-and-blue.

PSG are progressing quickly towards a renewal agreement with the record Ballon d’Or winner, posing a hurdle in the way of Joan Laporta. Now, the hatred-filled comments coming from the player’s own brother make his return less likely.

The Barcelona president, for his part, dreams of bringing Messi back to the club and repairing his relationship with the Argentine that was fractured at the time of the latter’s exit in 2021.

Laporta continues to believe that Messi remains the best player in the game and can continue to perform at the highest level after winning the World Cup.

Furthermore, the club have carried out studies which suggest that many members could request for a leave of absence for next season when Barcelona play at Montjuic, which would hamper the club’s revenue. But Messi’s return would negate that.

Furthermore, his return would also bring in financial boost in the form of sponsorship deals. So, Messi’s comeback has been Laporta’s dream for months. But, any such move is now extremely complicated.

In 18 league appearances for the Parisian club, Messi has scored ten goals and provided ten assists this season. Further, he averages 2.6 key passes per game and has created 17 big chances so far.
