Liverpool Look To Bring Chelsea Defender Levi Colwill To Anfield
Liverpool are interested in a deal to sign Levi Colwill as the club await clarification on the defender’s Chelsea future.
Colwill will hold talks with Chelsea on his return from representing England at the u21 European Championship this summer, with the defender keen to discover his role in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans after an impressive loan spell at Brighton.
Brighton are keen to sign the 20-year-old on a permanent basis and have had two offers turned down, with the second a club-record proposal worth £40m.
Football.London are reporting that Liverpool are monitoring developments ahead of a potential move, as Jurgen Klopp looks to bring in a left-sided central defender.
Colwill has two years remaining on his current contract and Chelsea are keen to tie the academy graduate down to a new deal, but the defender wants assurances over his role before committing to the club.
Chelsea signed Benoît Badiashile from Monaco during the January transfer window and the 22-year-old has impressed in Colwill’s preferred position.
Colwill is understood to be viewed as part of the west London side’s plans for next season and Chelsea have offered no encouragement that the defender could be sold, despite enquiries from Liverpool in recent days.
Colwill will form part of the England u21 side that will take on Spain in the European Championship final in Georgia on Saturday. Lee Carsley’s side beat Israel 3-0 in their semi-final on Wednesday, as the Young Lions look to win the tournament for the first time since 1984.
