Luis Diaz’s father names Liverpool forward’s ‘dream’ transfer destination
Luis Diaz’s father has revealed that his son’s “dream” is to play for La Liga giants Barcelona in the future.
Diaz’s father was recently handed over to UN officials after being kidnapped, alongside his wife Cilenis Marulanda, by the ELN – a left-wing rebel group that’s been active in Colombia since 1964 – after a lengthy spell in captivity.
For the first time since his release, Diaz’s father was in attendance to watch his son play in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Colombia and Brazil this week, and bore witness to the wide forward bagging a brace in a famous win for his country. Diaz’s father’s reaction to his son’s brace went viral after the game.
Speaking to Colombian television channel Win Sports, Luis Manuel has discussed his son’s footballing future, revealing that it is his “dream” to play for Barcelona one day.
“The truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment. It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there,” the elder Diaz revealed. “So far I would like to thank Porto and Liverpool for the way they welcomed him and received him.
“Luis is a player who finds it easy to win over because of the way he is, because of his humility, his work, his dedication, he is a very disciplined player, thank God. There would be no problem if Luis came to Barcelona because it is a top team and one of the best in the world.”
Diaz has been a key player for Liverpool since joining the club from Porto in 2022, scoring nine goals and contributing two assists for the Anfield club.
The wide player currently has four years left on his current deal at Liverpool, and would cost cash-strapped Barca a pretty penny were they to make a move for him.
