Luke Shaw: UEFA Champions League Qualification Still In Man United’s Hands
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw believes that the Reds’ aim to qualify for the Champions League is still in our hands.
The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League last night, with Shaw punished for a handball late in stoppage time.
Erik ten Hag’s side came close to clinching a point, which would have been a good result considering our form away from home this season.
Alexis Mac Allister stood up to take the penalty and scored after 99 minutes. It was a horrible way to lose the game but we’ve got no other choice but to bounce back this weekend.
Shaw spoke to MUTV after the match when he was asked about United’s chances of a top four finish in the Premier League.
“No, of course it’s good [to have another game so soon after this one],” Shaw said. “[We will] try to put things right.
“We’ve got a game in hand and we obviously have no choice but to be in the Champions League because we want the Champions League so bad. And this club needs to be there.
“But of course, we look at today’s results like this. If we keep doing that, then we’re in a fight for it. But it’s still in our hands.
“We know what we need to do and we only have so many games left and we need results quick.”
As things stand, United are four points clear of Liverpool with a game in hand. A win over West Ham in Sunday is required to settle the nerves.
