Mahrez Moving Closer To Seal Man City Exit
- Riyad Mahrez Verbally Agrees On Terms To Seal Manchester City Exit After Years.
Manchester City and Riyad Mahrez are moving closer to a parting of ways after five years together, after the Algerian international agreed to terms over the weekend.
The 32-year-old has been weighing up his options over the course of the summer transfer window so far, after it was understood that he would have been open to a change of scenery following frustrations throughout the treble-winning campaign.
Despite playing an integral role in Manchester City’s goalscoring output throughout the season, the understanding in various quarters is that Mahrez felt his game-time was somewhat limited and as such missed out on games he would have rather featured in.
This summer has presented Riyad Mahrez with a fresh challenge to be a part of a growing football project in the Middle East, as Saudi Arabia pump significant investment into the signing of some of Europe’s biggest stars.
Now, in a significant update on the future of the Algeria international, it appears as though talks with Saudi Arabia and specifically Al Ahli have persuaded Mahrez to make the leap to the Pro League.
That is as per the information of CBS’ Ben Jacobs, who reports that Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez has now verbally agreed terms with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli, as the raid on European football’s biggest names continues in the Middle East.
While it is clarified that there is still work to be done on the club-to-club side of the deal over the next 24 to 48 hours, Riyad Mahrez himself is ‘keen’ on the move, and Al-Ahli hope to move fast in order to finalise their marquee signing of the summer.
That update follows Fabrizio Romano’s own report, as the transfer expert stated earlier on Saturday that Manchester City were still waiting to receive an official proposal and documents around the deal, in a key stage that will be discussed next week.
Riyad Mahrez is not the only Manchester City player subject to a huge proposal from Saudi Arabia, with Bernardo Silva also being eyed for a move in a package that could earn him as much as £75 million per year.
Elsewhere, and Kyle Walker could also follow Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan through the exit door in the coming days, after the Englishman became keen on accepting a proposal from Bayern Munich.
As for arrivals, and they are few and far between at present, as Manchester City officials continue to focus on finding an agreement for Josko Gvardiol, before acting further in the market based only on who they have already let go.
