Man United Interested In Anderlecht Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen
There is uncertainty over whether David de Gea will be first choice goalkeeper next season.
The Spaniard looks set to sign a new deal on less money at Old Trafford, but the weaknesses in his game — such as distribution and coming off his line — could see Erik ten Hag look for a new No 1 in the transfer market.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are interested in Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
The 20-year-old has made 31 appearances for the Belgian giants after being handed his debut by former Man City goalkeeper Vincent Kompany two years ago.
Verbruggen is attracting interest from United after receiving his first call-up to the Netherlands squad last month. While he didn’t make his international debut, the Dutchman was on the bench for the European Championship qualifying win over Gibraltar.
Samuel Buckhurst reports: “Although De Gea is expected to sign a new contract with United, figures at the club are planning to phase him out and he is not assured of his first-choice role next term.”
At 32, there’s a feeling now that he is being asked too much to change his style of goalkeeping. It will be interesting to see who Ten Hag decides to phase him out – and who he will sign to do that.
It’s been two years since De Gea earned his last call-up to the Spain squad.
