Man United Midfielder Bruno Fernandes Doubtful For Tottenham Clash
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes is a doubt for their trip to London to face Tottenham Hotspur tomorrow.
On Sunday, the attacking midfielder twisted his ankle in the first half of their FA Cup semi-final game against Brighton & Hove Albion.
However, Fernandes played 101 minutes against the Seagulls despite the problem.
United manager Erik ten Hag has said the Portugal international’s participation in tomorrow’s game is uncertain.
At his press conference, Ten Hag said (via Man Utd’s website): “We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is. We don’t know yet. He is a question mark. I think for the rest, we are quite okay.”
United have only Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez out of the clash against the North Londoners.
Martinez is out for the campaign, while Varane should be back for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
Also, tomorrow’s match will be crucial in the race for the top four. United are fourth in the league table, six points ahead of Spurs, with two games in hand.
With a victory, United can knock Tottenham out of contention for the Champions League.
Although, Ten Hag warned his side that Tottenham would come into the game angry after their humiliating 6-1 loss to Newcastle United. The London club is in chaos right now.
Spurs sacked interim manager Cristian Stellini following the embarrassing loss at St. James’ Park. It was their second managerial dismissal of the season after the sacking of Antonio Conte.
Club chairman Daniel Levy took responsibility for the decision and hired Ryan Mason to replace Stellini.
The businessman faces a tough period ahead with fan unrest, no sporting director or permanent manager, and the looming departure of Harry Kane.
Ten Hag warned his side to be wary of the clever striker, who has 24 league goals. The former Ajax boss said they have a plan to stop him.
Next season, they may be drafting plans to help him score goals. He is reportedly Ten Hag’s primary target to reinforce the forward line, and they are preparing a summer move for him.
