Manchester United are progressing in talks with sensational youth prospect Alejandro Garnacho over a new contract.
Transfer journalist Dean Jones has reported that an agreement is close between the club and player regarding a new and extended deal.
United are keen on tying the Argentinian down to a new contract in a bid to ward off interest from European giants Real Madrid.
This season has seen Garnacho break into the first team and make a name for himself in senior football. He joined the club from Atletico Madrid’s youth team in 2020 and has since gone on to win the FA Youth Cup, as well as playing a key role in United’s journey to lifting the Carabao Cup.
The 18-year-old has supporters optimistic about his progression and development under Erik ten Hag, who has a special skill in developing younger players, given his success at Ajax.
Jones on Garnacho
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jones insisted the ongoing uncertainty regarding a potential takeover will have no impact on Garnacho’s talks: “Yeah I think ones like this, you can go full steam ahead on. It would take a very strong-willed owner to go against deals like this anyway.
“There are football people within the hierarchy that are tasked with this as their job, and that’s not going to change once the takeover happens.”
