Man United Secure Champions League Return After 4:1 Victory Over Chelsea
Manchester United cemented their place in the top four with a win over an ailing Chelsea.
With the win, Manchester United have booked their spot in the Champions League next season, returning to the competition after a one-year absence.
Coming in on the back of a sixth place finish last season, rejoining the top competition in Europe will have been goal number one for the club since August – and that goal has been completed.
Not only will the Champions League help attract more players to the resurgent club, but it will unearth some potentially much needed funds in a time when the club’s future at executive level is up in the air.
Erik ten Hag has been the leader of this Old Trafford turnaround and the players have taken to his plan perfectly after some initial question marks. It’s now a stunning 28 games unbeaten at home for United.
No matter how they got there, returning to the big show is worth celebrating for the red-half of Manchester.
The celebrations can begin at Old Trafford, but not without Manchester United’s defensive issues being noted.
The job was done, top-four secured. However, the squad will most certainly need to clean a few things up before going toe-to-toe with big boys once again next season.
Should they have come up against a more clinical side on Thursday evening, the scoreline could easily have told a different tale.
Chelsea truly should have had three goals in the first half if it were not for their misfiring nature.
Ten Hag will be keen on filling some of the holes his side left against the Blues especially with the FA Cup final approaching.
