Man United Set To Sell Anthony Martial After Losing ‘Patience’ With Striker
Manchester United are set to sell Anthony Martial this summer after losing ‘patience’ with the forward.
Martial has underwhelmed for much of his time with the club and has scored just eight goals in 27 appearances this season. The Frenchman has missed much of the current campaign with fitness issues and has failed to find his form since returning to the side.
Martial was substituted after an ineffective performance at Bournemouth last weekend and headed straight down the tunnel following his withdrawal.
Erik ten Hag failed to criticise the 27-year-old and said Martial later returned to the bench, but The Sun are reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to allow the forward to leave at the end of the season.
Martial signed for United from Monaco in a deal worth an initial £37m in 2015 and has since scored 87 goals in 296 appearances.
He impressed after his initial arrival and shone under former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to score 23 goals during the 2019/20 season, but has spent much of the past three seasons struggling for form and fitness.
He was loaned to Sevilla during the second half of last season, but failed to make an impact and was reintroduced to the squad following Ten Hag’s appointment as manager last summer.
United are keen to sign a centre-forward this summer and have been linked with Tottenham’s Harry Kane and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
The arrival of a marquee addition would threaten Martial’s chances of regular football and United could look to cash in on the forward, who will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer.
