Man United Striker Weghorst Ready For First Competitive Trip To Camp Nou
Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst is excited for his first trip to the Nou Camp.
The Reds travel to Barcelona for the first-leg of their Europa League play-off round tie this evening.
Neither side has struggled domestically this season — which makes for quite a difference when you look at their recent campaigns — with Barcelona 11 points clear of Real Madrid at the summit of La Liga, while United have lost just one game (vs Man City) since the end of the World Cup.
Weghorst is likely to start for Erik ten Hag’s side because the manager has few alternative options in attack. Anthony Martial is still ruled out with injury and you can tell that fans are becoming more fed up with the Frenchman’s lack of availability.
Speaking about the challenge ahead and his first game at Camp Nou, Weghorst told club media: “Yeah, of course it’s a great challenge for us.
“Of course the two matches with Barcelona are great, but at the end it’s about winning and it’s about the trophies. It doesn’t matter which club, or which stadium, wherever you’re going to play.
“We’re still active in four competitions and we want to keep playing in them. That’s why there’s only one thing that’s counting and that’s winning these days.
“On Thursday in the Nou Camp though, yeah that’s a big one.”
This will be our 14th meeting with Barcelona in European competition, with the two heavyweights enjoying a remarkable history of fixtures against one another.
The Netherlands international added: “You know the history a little bit and you look into it. You see a few clips coming past you but no, [they are] two really big clubs.
“For me, to be honest actually it’s the two biggest clubs in the world.
“It’s a great experience, and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s the first time for me personally to be in the Nou Camp, I’ve never been there.
“I’ve always said I only want to go there if I’m capable to play. Now I can play, so let’s get a win there.”
