Mauricio Pochettino Show Interest In Barcelona Midfielder
Chelsea are expected to finalise their appointment of a new manager for next season in a matter of days, with Mauricio Pochettino leading the race.
Formerly of PSG and Tottenham, the Argentine tactician has already started planning for next season with Chelsea. The club have been experiencing extreme turmoil despite signing a host of players during the January transfer window.
According to SPORT, Pochettino is keen on leading a large overhaul and one of the players he is targeting for next season is Gavi.
The midfield prodigy’s future has been a cause for concern after his first-team contract registration was overturned a few months ago by the Mercantile Court of Barcelona.
Due to the club’s economic situation, they are not yet in a position to register the contract extension the player signed last year.
Gavi returned to his youth contract at Barça, which has a clause that could see him becoming a free agent if Barcelona are not able to register the extension by July 1.
This leaves the Catalans in a precarious situation, with Gavi becoming the subject of interest for major clubs across Europe. It was, in fact, Chelsea who were earlier linked with a move for the Spanish international in the coming summer.
As part of the rebuild next season, Pochettino believes he should start the restructuring process from the centre of the pitch. As such, Gavi has emerged as the ideal option, though the Argentine tactician is prioritising a move for Alexis Mac Allister.
Gavi, though, has remained calm about the situation. He has no desire to leave Barcelona and believes a solution will present itself eventually.
But it is up to Barcelona to make moves in the market and generate enough space in the salary mass so that they can finally register the contract of the young Spaniard this summer.
