Messi’s Inter Miami Dreams Goes On As The Goat Scores 2 Goals In 22 Minutes
- Two Goals In 22 Minutes; Messi’s American Dreams Goes On.
Lionel Messi was at it again on his full Inter Miami debut, scoring two goals and providing an assist against Atlanta United on Tuesday.
Inter Miami had not won in 11 MLS games, a run dating back to May, as Messi made his debut last weekend. That MLS run is still ongoing — his two appearances have come in the Leagues Cup, a competition that pits MLS sides against Liga MX outfits — but the 36-year-old has already inspired a change in fortunes.
Having scored an injury-time free-kick in the weekend’s defeat of Chivas, Messi played from the start in midweek and he did not disappoint.
Within 22 minutes he had two goals. He scored both with his right foot, tapping in a rebound after hitting the post for the opener before sliding home a cutback for the second.
Robert Taylor made it 3-0 before half-time, adding a fourth strike after Messi slipped him through 53 minutes in.
That was the last big impact of the game from the ex-PSG star, who was substituted with around 15 minutes remaining.
Just the three goals and one assist in 114 minutes of football for Messi so far in the States, then.
