Mikel Arteta Thought Mason Mount Would Sign For Arsenal
Arsenal are being praised by all corners of the media for their transfer activity and willingness to get deals done this summer, but manager Mikel Arteta had hoped to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea.
Mason Mount has already confirmed that he will be leaving Chelsea after 18 years at the club and a move to Manchester United is expected to be announced today.
The England international came through the ranks at Stamford Bridge and since making his first-team debut in 2019 has gone on to score 27 goals and register 22 assists.
His appearance tally is impressive, too, amounting to 129 for the Blues.
According to Andy Mitten, writing for The National, both Arsenal and Liverpool were interested in signing Mount but he made it clear to United and Ten Hag that he wanted to move to Old Trafford.
Mitten adds that Arteta wasn’t only an admirer, but he thought Mount would sign for Arsenal and prefer to stay in London.
Manchester United will be getting a versatile midfielder that Ten Hag has been an admirer of for a long time. He first came under the Dutch manager’s radar during a loan spell at Eredivisie side Vitesse throughout the 2017-18 season.
The fact Ten Hag likes Mount’s energy off the ball as well as his willingness to be a creator suggests he could even partner Casemiro in a more deep-lying role at United.
Arsenal have already signed Kai Havertz from Chelsea and West Ham’s Declan Rice is on the verge of joining him at the Emirates.
Yet it still looks like we’ve landed one not only Arsenal but Liverpool wanted to sign.
