Napoli Announce Rudi Garcia As New Manager
Napoli confirm Rudi Garcia As their new head coach.
Napoli have announced that they have appointed Rudi Garcia as their new head coach.
The French boss replaces Luciano Spalletti who left the club at the end of this season to take some time off from management.
Spalletti led the Blues to an impressive Serie A title for the first time in 33 years, finishing 16 points above second-placed Lazio.
But he wanted to take a year long sabbatical after taking over the club as their manager in May 2021.
Christophe Galtier, who was sacked from his position by Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month, was reportedly one of the top favourites for the vacancy at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
But Napoli have now confirmed they have appointed Rudi Garcia as their new manager.
The 59-year-old was most recently the coach of Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr.
He came into the job last summer but was sacked in April due to his relationship with the players as well as dissatisfaction with his style of play.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr eventually missed out on the league title with Al-Ittihad crowned champions after finishing five points ahead of them.
Garcia’s recent managerial stint in Saudi Arabia may not have been very successful but he boasts a lot of experience.
The 59-year-old has previously coached nine clubs in his career so far, including the likes of Lyon, Marseille, AS Roma and Lille.
Lyon won the Ligue 1 title as well as the Coup de France under him in the 2010-11 season.
