NIGERIA’S COACH PESEIRO REASON OUT SUPER EAGLES LOSS TO ECUADOR

Jose Peseiro has lost his second match in charge of Nigeria after the Super Eagles fell to a 1-0 defeat to Ecuador in an international friendly.

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has reacted to Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Ecuador in a friendly match played at the 25,000 capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey.

It is the second match the Portuguese tactician will be handling since he was appointed the new technical adviser of the Nigerian national team.

Peseiro lost his debut game with the team as Mexico defeated Nigeria 2-1 at the AT&T Stadium and Arlington and the manager had hoped for a better result in his second game in charge.

However, the Ecuadorians scored early as the 3rd minute courtesy of a fine header from Pervis Estupinan who netted from close range and that was how it ended.

Speaking after the game, Peseiro stated that his side deserved at least a penalty in the course of the game, but admitted his side struggled during the encounter.

Peseiro said as per BSN Sports..

“Of course, I don’t want to speak about the referee but at least one penalty. No VAR but at the start of the show, there was a clear penalty. The goalkeeper touched the foot of our striker. “I don’t know but I was told we had another penalty also but the referee didn’t give it to us. But it is okay, anybody can commit mistakes. Even the players can make mistakes also.

“Today in the first half we didn’t well but in the last 25 minutes. Only in the first 50 minutes, we didn’t play like we should but they commanded the match after 50 minutes”.

“The second half much better but it is not easy to put pressure on opponents for 90 minutes. Today, we play better than against Mexico. I hope we will take this today to our AFCON match against Sierra Leone.”
