Orlando Pirates have reportedly come to a decision with regards to midfielder Collins Makgaka, who has struggled for game time.
Orlando Pirates have reportedly come to a decision with regards to midfielder Collins Makgaka, who has struggled for game time.
Makgaka’s future at Pirates seemed to be the subject of speculation, with many indications that he is in his last days at the club.
MAKGAKA HAS STRUGGLED AT PIRATES
The 26-year-old signed for Pirates back in 2020, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal, joining from the now relegated Baroka. Things, however, have been far from smooth sailing for Makgaka since joining the Buccs, with him never being able to nail down a regular starting place in those three years at the club, which are set to be coming to an end, at the conclusion of the current season.
It has now been revealed by Soccer-Laduma that Makgaka has an option to extend his deal at Pirates for a further two-years, and furthermore, that the Sea Robbers have already taken up the option of extending his stay at the club.
SET FOR SHOCK STAY?
“As it stands, he’ll be staying with Pirates next season. Yeah, they took the options earlier this year. I know it has been a frustrating few years for Collins and he hasn’t got enough chances, but Pirates wants him to stay so there is a plan for him next season, he is an unbelievable player” said his agent to Soccer-Laduma.
It seems like a rather strange decision from Pirates, as they have not shown much indication that they see a future for Makgaka at the club. Another options they could be thinking of might be a business decision on their side. The player has been linked to a couple of teams from the DStv Premiership with Stellenbosch FC one of the club’s that are thought to be circling around for his services.
Pirates may well have renewed Makgaka’s contract in the hope that they can command a transfer fee for his services rather than letting him leave for free.
