Ousmane Dembele Could Return To Face Atletico Madrid Depending On Tomorrow’s Training
Barcelona have received a huge boost ahead of their game against Atletico Madrid this weekend as Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Ousmane Dembele have all restarted team training after picking up injuries in the last month or so.
De Jong was among the last players to pick up an injury for Barcelona, and had to drop out of the Netherlands National Team during international break. While it was thought to be a minor knock that would sideline him for a fortnight, the Dutchman has been injured for a month now.
Meanwhile, Pedri went down with a hamstring injury against Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League knockout rounds. He was supposed to be out for a month, but has missed over two months of action now after picking up a relapse.
While the midfield duo are back and expected to start against Atletico Madrid in the league, Dembele’s return depends on his feelings in training tomorrow, reports Javi Miguel of AS.
Should the Frenchman feel good about his injury tomorrow, he could be on the squad list, and could even get 15-20 minutes of playing time.
Dembele was the first of the three to pick up an injury. He picked up a muscle knock while trying to chase a heavy touch against Girona, and has missed nearly three months of football since.
Raphinha has filled in for Dembele during that time, coming up with clutch goals against Manchester United, Valencia, and Athletic Club. The Brazilian’s form has gone downhill over April, though, as he is yet to register any goal involvement in his last four matches.
Raphinha will have to pucker up against Atletico, though, as Diego Simeone’s side are the most in-form team in the league right now.
Dembele scored the winner against them during the reverse fixture, but will likely not get minutes at all this time around.
