Ousmane Dembele Will Renew His Contract Until 2027, Is ‘Delighted’ At Barcelona
In a positive development for FC Barcelona, Alfredo Martinez is reporting that key forward Ousmane Dembele will end up renewing his contract with the club this summer.
The 26-year-old has grown into a pivotal part of the team, especially under Xavi Hernandez. This past season, the winger finished with a tally of eight goals and nine assists from 35 games, helping Barça win the La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup trophies.
Dembele’s current contract with the Blaugrana expires next year. However, what is concerning for the club is that the Frenchman has a release clause worth €50 million which will become active this summer, leaving the club open to overtures from interested parties.
As such, the La Liga champions have been hoping to tie Dembele down to a new contract and get rid of the measly release clause. To that end, they had already sent in a new proposal to the former Borussia Dortmund ace which would keep him at the club until 2027.
And even though there has been no agreement yet, the report states that Dembele’s response to the contract offer has been very positive.
It is further claimed that the French international is ‘delighted’ at the club and with manager Xavi. As such, there are no complications foreseen in his contract extension.
Given the drama of last year, where negotiations dragged on and on to a point when Dembele became a free agent before re-signing with Barça, it is understandable that the club are keen on avoiding a repeat and wish to close his renewal at the earliest possible.
There are some finer details of the agreement left that need to be worked out, but it is believed that Dembele will renew his contract with Barcelona until 2027.
