Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba has been given a four year ban from football after being found guilty of doping offences.
Confirmation of Pogba’s ban was widely reported on Thursday by several outlets, including Gazzetta dello Sport in Italy and the BBC, with the France international unable to take part in any football activities until 2027.
Italy’s anti-doping agency (NADO) requested the four year ban last year after Pogba tested positive for testosterone following Juve’s game with Udinese on August 20.
Pogba subsequently asked for a counter-analysis following the initial positive test, but that counter-analysis also proved to be positive.
The banned substance DHEA was shown to be in Pogba’s bloodstream, a hormone which creates testosterone.
Pogba opted not to make a plea bargain with NADO, meaning his case was tried before Italy’s anti-doping court late last year.
The case has now been tried with confirmation that Pogba committed doping offences with the 30-year-old now receiving a maximum ban of four years.
His suspension is subject to a possible appeal.
