Pedri Creates His ‘Ideal Midfielder’ Using Five Ex-Barcelona Stars
In a fun little interaction with ESPN (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Pedri was asked his version of an ideal midfielder, who is adept at tackling, ball-winning and defensive work. At the same time, the midfielder would also create chances and offer productivity.
While describing the prototype midfielder, Pedri mentioned five former Barcelona midfielders who have played for the club over the past two decades.
For the vision and work ethic, the Spaniard described Barcelona coach Xavi. Pedri has recently praised Xavi’s role in his development in a recent interview with GQ Magazine.
Pedri hailed Andres Iniesta as the ideal midfielder for his touch and dribbling. The youngster has stated in the past that Iniesta is one of his favourite players. He echoed similar sentiments even in the interview with GQ.
Meanwhile, Pedri mentioned Ivan Rakitic for his end-product and productivity in the final third. The Croatian international is indeed a lethal midfielder, who had notably scored 35 competitive goals during his time at Camp Nou.
Pedri was asked about the physical aspect of the game, in which he mentioned Yaya Toure. The Ivorian had played for Barça between 2007 to 2010, though he is most famous for his spell at Manchester City.
Finally, Pedri talked about Sergio Busquets as the ideal midfielder when it comes to winning back possession and tackling. Pedri believes the culmination of all these ex-Barcelona stars could make for an ideal prototype midfielder.
