Pep Guardiola Send Message To Barcelona After La Liga Triumph: “They Have Been Incredible”
This past Sunday, Barcelona defeated local rivals RCD Espanyol 4-2 away from home and by doing so, they were confirmed as the champions of La Liga for the 2022/23 season.
Having suffered a three-season drought when it comes to the league title, the Catalan giants sealed the triumph in style with a resounding win over their derby rivals, winning the crown with four games to spare.
And, former manager Pep Guardiola has sent a message to Barcelona following their brilliant campaign in the Spanish top flight this season.
Speaking to Movistar+, the Manchester City boss said that the title victory was more than deserved for Barça, as they had been extremely incredible over the course of the 2022/23 campaign.
“It’s good to see them win the league again after everything they went through. It’s a big moment. They’ve been incredible, also defensively,” he said.
“They overcame the absences of important players like Pedri. More than deserving winners.”
Directing a cheeky comment at Barcelona president Joan Laporta, Guardiola added: “I sent a congratulatory message to Xavi and another to the President, who still hasn’t replied to me. Knowing Laporta, I can imagine him still partying.”
It has truly been a remarkable league campaign for Barcelona. After 34 matchweeks, the newly-crowned champions have lost just three matches in the competition, while conceding just 13 goals, which has made them one of the best defensive units in Europe this term.
Meanwhile, at the opposite end, Robert Lewandowski has been a tremendous addition and is leading the race for the Pichichi Trophy for the most goals scored in La Liga this season.
While there have been disappointments in Europe, Xavi, and Barcelona can be proud of what they have achieved this season.
