Real Madrid Defender Antonio Rudiger Racially Abused By Cadiz Fans
Real Madrid defender Antonio Rudiger was subjected to racial abuse by the fans during the La Liga game against Cadiz on Saturday.
Several reports (h/t The Guardian) revealed the video highlighting Cadiz fans abusing the German defender with racist slurs and throwing objects at him when he went to the stands to give his shirt to a Madrid fan.
Rudiger also confronted some of the fans before being taken away by the members of Madrid staff.
This is not the first time a Madrid player has become a target of racial insults, as Vinicius Junior has experienced a similar situation in several instances this season.
Before the Copa del Rey clash against Atletico Madrid in January, an effigy of Vincius was hung from a bridge with the message ‘Madrid hates Real’.
The Brazilian forward was on the receiving end of racial abuse from Mallorca fans during the La Liga game the following month.
Vini was also left distraught by the situation and called out La Liga for more protection against racism.
The 22-year-old also testified against a Mallorca fan, who also turned out to be the one who racially abused Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze.
Los Blancos continued their excellent run with a 2-0 victory over Cadiz, with Nacho and Marco Asensio bagging the goals.
With leaders Barcelona being held to a draw against Getafe, Madrid have reduced the gap to 11 points.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side visit Chelsea for the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Having defeated them 2-0 in their first meeting, Madrid are the favourites to progress to the last four.
