Real Madrid Loss To Sociedad Fading Title Hopes
Real Madrid’s poor form continued this evening, losing away to Real Sociedad, opening the door for Barcelona to win the La Liga title next weekend.
Real Sociedad 2-0 Real Madrid
Goal Scorer: Kubo 46′
Los Blancos pushed to find the opener in the first half, but Carlo Ancelotti’s men appeared to leave their shooting boots back in Madrid on the night.
They were punished almost immediately in the second half, as Éder Militão inexplicably mishit a back-pass to Thibaut Courtois, allowing former Real player Takefusa Kubo to tap home the opener into an empty goal.
To make matters worse for Real, Dani Carvajal was given his marching orders for his second yellow card of the evening on the hour mark, digging an even deeper hole for the visitors.
Sociedad maintained control after the Carvajal’s sending off, and drove the final nail into their visitors’ coffin in the final five minutes, as Ander Barrenetxea fired home from the edge of the box to double the lead.
The result sees Real lose a second game in their last three La Liga fixtures, and all but kills their slim chances to catch Barcelona at the top of the division.
For the hosts however, a superb showing against Carlo Ancelotti’s men may just have secured Champions League football for La Real next season.
