Real Madrid Want Kylian Mbappe To Force PSG Departure
In the wake of last night’s reports that Kylian Mbappé would not be extending his Paris Saint-Germain contract past the end of next season, the prospect of the France captain joining Real Madrid this summer has been gaining in credence.
According to L’Équipe this evening, Los Blancos were initially planning on making a potential move for Mbappé next season – however, Karim Benzema’s departure for Saudi Arabia has changed their plans.
Although Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane was initially singled out as a first-choice target, the prospect of drawn-out talks with Daniel Levy has seen Real Madrid reconsider that plan of action. Adding to the Spaniards’ hesitation has been the fact that they have recently been in contact again with Mbappé’s entourage, L’Équipe add.
The timing of the forward’s decision has surprised Real Madrid, although they are remaining cautious – not least given his U-turn last summer before signing a contract extension.
As a result, Florentino Pérez would like concrete guarantees before making a move – and as a result will wait for Mbappé to force his departure or for PSG to transfer list him. At that point, they will be ready to spend up to €200m.
