After swooping away Mateu Alemany from FC Barcelona, Aston Villa are now interested in raiding Spotify Camp Nou for a player in the summer, in the form of Andreas Christensen, as per reports in England (h/t Mundo Deportivo).
Last night, Barcelona confirmed that Alemany will be leaving on June 30, following which reports have emerged that the 60-year-old director of football will be heading to Aston Villa in the summer.
And, with Alemany’s imminent acquisition, Aston Villa are understood to be planning a move to try and sign Andreas Christensen in the summer.
Christensen arrived at Barcelona only last summer, joining as a free agent after his contract with Chelsea had expired. Even though he has had a couple of injury setbacks, the 27-year-old has been a rock-solid addition to the team.
In 27 appearances this season, Christensen has scored and assisted a goal each and has been critical to the exceptional defensive record that Barcelona have produced this season.
Aston Villa are not the only club interested in the Danish international, with Newcastle United also said to be a suitor.
Christensen’s contract with Barça runs until 2026. But considering that he arrived for free, any transfer fee that they would get for him would be chalked down as net profit in the books.
However, Christensen is seen as an ‘untouchable’ at Barcelona and it is next to impossible that the club would be willing to listen to any sort of offers for the former Chelsea ace this season.
