Just a couple of days after his dream debut against Real Betis, Barcelona are on the verge of reaching an agreement with Lamine Yamal over a new contract.
The 15-year-old became the youngest player to ever feature for Barcelona when he appeared as a substitute against Real Betis this past Saturday. He also became the fifth youngest player in La Liga.
Apart from breaking the record, Yamal mesmerised onlookers with his skill and quick feet out wide, with head coach Xavi Hernandez promptly comparing him to Lionel Messi soon after the game.
According to Roger Saperas, Barcelona and Yamal have reached an agreement over his first professional contract that would guarantee his continuity at Camp Nou. The youngster will be able to sign the deal when he turns 16. It is claimed that the contract will have a release clause in it.
Yamal will turn 16 in the coming July, making him eligible to be an official part of the senior side. Everything suggests the winger will be a part of Barça’s pre-season preparations and slowly settle into the first team.
Yamal’s rapid rise to prominence is an exciting prospect for Barça, especially at a time when their star man Ansu Fati has failed to find his groove. The explosive winger has never been the same since his injury and there have been talks about him being sold in the coming summer.
Along with Ferran Torres, Fati is in danger of being axed at the end of the season, as part of the club’s plans to reduce the salary mass. Not to mention, the Blaugrana are forecasting some much-needed revenue from the potential sale of the Spanish international.
As for Yamal, the youngster is looking forward to breaking many more records for Barcelona in the years to come. With six matches still left until the end of the season, the player is likely to feature in the remaining matches, which could give him the opportunity to gain more valuable game-time at the highest level.
