Report: Barcelona Captains Have Not Reached Any Agreement To Sign For Al Hilal
While the speculations of Lionel Messi’s potential return to Camp Nou has dominated the Barcelona channels in recent weeks, there has also been uncertainty regarding the future of the club’s two veteran stars Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
Both players are facing very distinct situations, with Busquets being offered renewal offers a few months ago, but yet to provide a response. Jordi Alba, on the other hand, has been facing an uncertain future, with reports suggesting he could be offloaded in the coming summer.
Amidst this, reports earlier claimed that both Busquets and Alba had been offered contracts by Saudi Arabian outfit Al Hilal as part of their strategy to sign Messi.
Some outlets went as far as claiming that the Barcelona veteran duo had agreed to the move as well.
But a recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on the futures of both these veterans. The report points out that Busquets is not thinking about a move to Saudi Arabia as of yet and has not accepted any offers, contrary to what has been reported.
Although the midfielder is yet to offer any response to Barça’s offer, he could issue feedback this week and inform Barcelona of the decision on his future.
As for Alba, the full-back still has a contract until 2024. Earlier in the year, Alba has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, amid worries over his depleting role in the first team, especially with Alejandro Balde’s rapid rise to prominence.
But as the report, Alba is keen to fulfil his contract at Camp Nou, especially keeping in mind that he will soon become a father once again this summer. So, like Busquets, Alba, too, has not agreed to any offer from Al Hilal.
The continuity of Busquets and Alba could prove to be useful for Barcelona, given the fact that both players have played a key role in guiding other young players in the team. Earlier in the year, Alba had notably highlighted his role in guiding and developing the qualities of Balde.
However, on the flip side, their continuity might raise concerns over Barcelona’s salary mass, which must be contained if the club are to sign new players.
