Report: Barcelona Growing More Optimistic About Lionel Messi Returning In The Summer
As we near the end of the 2022/23 campaign, Barcelona have stepped up their focus in the transfer market, despite their apparent economic limitations.
The club have been working hard to work out its Financial Feasibility Plan, which requires approval from La Liga. They are also exploring various different ways to generate fresh income, including new sponsorship deals.
The focus of the operation is clear: sign Lionel Messi, along with a few other top-quality players that can help the team compete in the UEFA Champions League and retain their crown in La Liga next season.
For a while now, Barça have appeared quite uncertain regarding the pursuit of Messi, especially due to the club’s economic limitations.
However, according to Gaston Edul (h/t AlbicelesteTalk), Barcelona are growing more optimistic about re-signing Messi with each passing day. They are more confident about the operation than they have been in the past week.
Edul’s claims come shortly after Barça president Joan Laporta openly admitted the club’s desire to bring back their prodigal son in the coming summer. Laporta also said Barcelona will do everything it can to secure the return of their fabled superstar.
Following his press conference, Spanish media has claimed Messi has expressed his intention to return as well, which could give Barça a bit of relief, especially after fresh rumours linking the Argentine ace to a move to Saudi Arabia.
With Messi firmly on board, it is up to Barcelona to work out the details of their economic capacity ahead of the new season. It will also be critical for the club to secure the exits of their unwanted stars, as part of the plans to generate fresh income, which in turn, could help them fund a move for Messi this coming summer.
