Report: Barcelona Ready To Sell Eric Garcia If A ‘High’ Offer Arrive

As Barcelona look to meet their objectives in the transfer market this coming summer, the club’s priority is to make space in the wage budget by securing the exit of several star players.

A report from Diario SPORT points out that Barça are ready to listen to offers for players such as Jordi Alba, Ferran Torres and Franck Kessie. However, if the situation is dire, they could consider the sale of Eric Garcia.

Formerly of Manchester City, Garcia has failed to make an impact at Camp Nou since rejoining the club in 2021. He has failed to gain regular minutes under Xavi this season, falling behind the likes of Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, and Jules Kounde in the pecking order.

With Barcelona ready to bring in another centre-back in the form of Inigo Martinez, Garcia’s role in the club could dwindle further next season.

However, the report suggests selling Garcia is not Barcelona’s first priority despite his struggles. It appears the coaching staff still rate the player highly for his technical prowess, and his utility, especially when the chips are down.

The Spaniard has also been used as a defensive midfielder this season, against Elche, and Xavi has extensively talked about how high his ceiling is.

That being said, Barcelona will consider Garcia’s sale if they receive a reasonable offer in the coming summer. The player has not been strongly linked with any particular club as of now, but there is a strong chance suitors may line up once the season ends.

Garcia, for his part, has a point to prove after a disappointing season so far. The former Man City starlet will have the opportunity to feature in the first-team during the remainder of the campaign, as Xavi may look to experiment with his starting eleven.

During this phase, it is essential Garcia makes a strong impression and convinces Xavi to keep him in the squad for next season.
