Given the rivalry between Barcelona and Real Madrid and the fact that former Blaugrana boss Pep Guardiola masterminded a stunning victory, it was a joyous occasion for many Culers.
After all, Barcelona managed to beat Real Madrid to the La Liga crown with still four games left to spare. Following that, Man City sent them packing from the Champions League to heap further misery.
And, it seems like the 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid by City left the Barcelona squad members stunned as well.
Indeed, as per a report from Javi Miguel of AS, the Barça squad’s Whatsapp group burst into life during the game, with praise for the quality and superiority that Manchester City were demonstrating at the Etihad Stadium.
The Barcelona players are understood to have been mesmerised by how Real Madrid were outplayed, with a message along the lines of “What a shake-up” being sent.
Some are understood to have claimed that they had not seen Los Blancos ‘being dominated the way they were last night in a very long time’, when another player pointed out that the Blaugrana had done it against them in the Spanish Super Cup final in January this year.
Meanwhile, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez is said to have sent a congratulatory message to his former mentor and Man City boss Guardiola on their victory and progression to the finals of the Champions League.
Eric Garcia and Ferran Torres, two former Manchester City players, also got in touch with their ex-teammates and congratulated them on their exceptional performance against the Spanish capital club as per the report.
