Last night, Lionel Messi became the first-ever footballer to be named the Laureus Sportsman of the Year twice, when he received the award for 2023 after his exploits with Argentina at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar late last year.
The 35-year-old former Barcelona captain has been in the news quite heavily of late owing to the speculations around his future. With his contract at PSG expiring at the end of the season, Messi has been heavily linked with a return to Barça.
So when Messi was spotted talking with Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski before the Laureus World Sports Awards ceremony started, it certainly generated a lot of intrigue and excitement among the fans.
Now, it so happened that a camera close by managed to capture a part of the interaction between two of the most iconic footballers in the world and.
During the part of the conversation that was caught on camera, Messi, along with his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, checked on Lewandowski and how he was finding life in Barcelona, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
Messi initially said to Lewandowski: “Is everything alright at Barcelona?” In response, the Barcelona striker said: “Yeah, good.”
Messi’s wife Antonela Roccuzzo then chimed in and said: “They [Lewandowski and his wife] are in love with the city.”
Following that, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner asked Lewandowski “Do you live in Castelldefels?” and received an affirmative response.
With La Liga reportedly approving Barcelona’s economic viability plan to re-sign Messi, there now seems to be a good chance that Messi could end up returning to the club. And the prospect of him and Lewandowski pairing up on the pitch is certain to have fans drooling.
