Report: Real Madrid Ace Was Not 100% Fit For Man City Clash
Real Madrid’s hopes of retaining their UEFA Champions League withered away last night as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the semifinals.
The Premier League champions booked a ticket to the final, following a 5-1 aggregate win over Los Blancos. As the scoreline suggests, it was not a good night for the Spanish giants as they were lacklustre and were beaten by Man City in every aspect.
One of the players who struggled to perform was Eduardo Camavinga. Starting at left-back, the youngster was not able to make an impact and was constantly outplayed by his counterparts.
According to Diario AS, Camavinga’s performance made it evident that the player was far from fit on the night. He was, after all, coming on the back of a knock he incurred against Getafe in the last match.
The Frenchman twisted his ankle and asked to be substituted in the 84th minute, even though Carlo Ancelotti had already assigned Marco Asensio as his fifth sub. Confusion ensued when Asensio was asked to stay on the pitch so that Camavinga can be brought off.
This led Getafe to file an official complaint to RFEF’s Competition Commission. If the complaint is upheld, Real Madrid will be handed a 3-0 defeat.
Ancelotti, meanwhile, should deserve some of the blame for the calamity yesterday. The Real Madrid coach was the first one to rule out Camavinga’s injury soon after the Getafe match and insisted that he will start against Manchester City.
But following the Frenchman’s shoddy performance and lack of fitness on the night, it appears Ancelotti would have been better advised to start someone else, such as Ferland Mendy, who had recovered from his injury at the weekend.
