According to a report from Gerard Romero, Barcelona president Joan Laporta and director Mateu Alemany have flown to Porto where they will meet superagent Jorge Mendes.
The journalist states that the Blaugrana will discuss several players with the Portuguese agent, with Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio also said to be on the agenda.
Asensio is set to become a free agent this summer as his contract with Los Blancos stands to expire on June 30.
Talks over a renewal are understood to have been held but without much success as the Spanish forward is hoping for a bigger pay packet than the €4 million per yer deal that the club is offering.
Amidst all this, Barcelona have emerged as a possible suitor for Asensio for the summer. The Blaugrana had tried to sign him from RCD Mallorca before his move to Real Madrid.
Now that he could be available for free, there seems to be some degree of interest in acquiring his services in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Reports have already claimed that Asensio has been offered to Barcelona by Mendes, and the 27-year-old Spanish international will be among the players that the two parties will discuss during their meeting in Porto today.
Asensio, for his part, has maintained that he wants to prolong his stay at Real Madrid. However, much will depend on who among the two parties are willing to move their stance in contract negotiations so that an agreement can be finalised.
If it does not happen, a move to Barcelona could be a strong possibility considering their interest in Asensio and Mendes’ strong relationship with the Catalan club’s president, Laporta.
