Barcelona appear to be on track in their bid to sign Inigo Martinez. The two parties are in advanced talks over a potential summer move, with the player likely to sign a three-year contract at Camp Nou.
However, despite the likely arrival of Martinez, Barcelona have continued to keep an eye on the market for potential defensive reinforcements.
One of the potential targets for Barça is Evan Ndicka. The Eintracht Frankfurt starlet has emerged as a sought-after prospect in the market following his unprecedented success in the German top flight.
A centre-back by trade, Ndicka is an athletic defender who is capable of operating as a left-back. He is also comfortable operating in a back three, which idscoupled with his physical and aerial prowess – making him an ideal defensive asset for any team.
Barcelona have been keeping an eye on Ndicka’s development for quite a while now. And after almost five years at Frankfurt, it appears the player himself is open to proposals in the coming summer. Barça are among the clubs interested in his services.
However, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are set to face fresh competition from AS Roma in the race to sign the Frenchman.
It appears Roma coach Jose Mourinho has asked the Giallorossi to make a move for Ndicka as he looks for defensive reinforcements ahead of the new season. The Frankfurt starlet has been identified as the ideal option as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Being a free agent, Ndicka should face no shortage of suitors, with Roma being the latest club to join the list. In addition to the Italian giants and Barcelona, the defender has been targeted by several clubs including Inter Milan, Juventus and Liverpool, among others.
